I need some design basics help…?

I’m having a house built & I know we’re going with a darker concrete stained floor. So my question is do I go with a light trim & darker walls or a wood trim with light walls? The kitchen cabinets I like are cream with a glaze, so then should I match the countertops with the darker floors or keep then in the same tone as the cabinets? I want everything to transition well & to save money I’ll probably go with the same paint through out for now & update later if needed. I also don’t want to pay some one to decorate I just don’t know where to start.

Clean and smooth out basement concrete floor that has stains and has been resurfaced in spots?

My This-Old-House-like basement floor is a mess. Stains from heaven knows what. Dried mud from the now-fixed leaks. Very rough and uneven in most areas (pebbles in concrete). It seems to have been patched in some areas, but not others. (The patch or resurfacing stuff has broken up). I’m debating about doing a pressure wash first then trying to resurface if possible or could I go straight to resurface? Not sure how affordable it is to have someone do it and need to keep a lid on costs. Thanks for any thoughts.

How do I clean my concrete basement floor?

Me and my friends were trying to clean up my basement the other night. Everything looked great, except the floors we stained with dirt and food and other things we cant identify haha. What are some ways to get the floor looking clean without damaging it?

I have stained concrete floors and spilled a whole bottle of taquila. Now the floors look like someone poured ?

My cat's puke a lot….what are some types of floors that won't get stained?

We’re replacing our carpet and deciding what floors to get. They’ve stained the concrete in the unfinished areas of our basement and they’ve stained the carpet as well. What are some good floorings that won’t get stained? Specific types? Thanks!
It’s because they lick themselves waaaay too much. we can’t do anything about it. They’ve been there and that’s just the nature of the cats. We’re for sure replacing them, they need to be. fyi

How can I make my concrete floor slippery?

Me and my friends want to make the floor in my house slippery so that we can put on socks and slide around. The floor is stained concrete. How could I make it slippery?

Having a house built in North West Arkansas (ikea, formica, stained concrete)?

And even though we won’t do it for at least another year, possibly 2, we are already working on research for it. Both of us are big out door people, and we would rather spend a little bit less on the house and more on the out door living space.

One thing we are pretty sure of is that we want stained concrete in all of the main rooms. We’ve had carpet, tile, stained concrete and vinyl. We both loved the stained concrete because it was easy to keep clean and it looked great. But we do want carpet in the bedrooms. What are the pros and cons of doing this? Is it cheaper to go with the stained concrete vs tile in the bathrooms, kitchen, dining and living room?

Also, Formica vs Granite, again this is something we have had and don’t mind having again. The way we see it is that we plan on living in this house for many years and will have time and more money in the future to upgrade and change these things. So what are the pros and cons of Formica vs granite?

And another thing I am wanting to do is have my closets storage space set up like they do in Ikea. This would defiantly be a splurge. But I think it would make a lot of sense to have that from day one and I’m thinking it may be something that adds resale value. Does it? This is what I am talking about: http://esienkiewicz.omnisitebuilder.com/_files/Image/closet%20neat%20freaks%281%29.jpg

I already know that we will make sure there a plenty of outlets. I know we will def do a built in microwave above the stove. And we don’t want to cut cost on important building factors that will affect the quality of our home. But are there any other suggestions you have on things we can cut costs on that will still look nice or that are things easily upgraded or changed in the future, such as counter tops and flooring?

And for those that have built a house on their own with out a contractor, how did that work out for you. Would you suggest it? Why or why not? I’ve heard that its a good way to go if you know a lot of people that work in construction fields and that you can save a lot of money that way. What are the pros and cons of this?

can you stain over acetone?

I used acetone to remove carpet glue from a concrete floor. Can I stain over it now?

Garage Flooring Paint? Epoxy?

Hi There,

I live in CA and I have a 40 year old garage concrete floor which is not cracked and in relatively good condition. However, there are stains from battery acid, oil and just general stains all over. I am quite picky and its not very pleasing to eye and I would like to cover it up.

I have seen garage floor paint, epoxy and other finishes that I can apply. I am fairly handy, but don’t have any scrubbing or etching tools. Only the basics (drills, vacuumms, saws, etc.). What do you recommend?

First: Epoxy or just paint?
Second: Hire or do it myself?

any suggestions, tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
